Rad Gato teaches Brazilian Portuguese through a skateboarding arcade game: 100 levels, about 6,000 words and phrases recorded by Will, a Brazilian voice actor, and six difficulty levels from your first words to the way people really talk.
The tour
You ride through Rio de Janeiro, Sugarloaf, Lapa, São Paulo, Salvador, the Lençóis Maranhenses, Fernando de Noronha, Jericoacoara, Olinda, Ouro Preto, Brasília, Florianópolis, Lisbon, Belém, Sintra, Porto, the Douro Valley, the Algarve, Nazaré, Madeira, the Azores, Mount Pico, the Pantanal, Manaus and Iguaçu Falls. Every four levels is one city: a words level, a phrases level built from those words, a full-sentence level, and a half-pipe speed round that recaps the city before it stamps your passport.
The six rungs
Iniciante, Viajante, Intermediário, Avançado, O Chefe, Fluente. Fluente unlocks only when you beat the fifth rung, and teaches regional slang, proverbs, wordplay and fast speech.
Why a game works
Every answer is a decision made at speed, with a real voice saying the word as you land it. Words you miss come back on a spaced-repetition schedule; words you know get harder, first read, then heard alone. There is no streak shaming and no ads.
